The Influence of “Star Trek” on Popular Culture
Everyone loves their cell phones and smart phones. The opportunity to text someone a simple hello or call a person miles away gives people great joy. Well Star Trek made it possible for the world to have cell phones today. The inventor of cell phones, Martin Cooper, got his idea from Captian Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series. Not only has the television shows allowed us to have new technologies in the social field, but it has also driven scientists to create objects from the shows. For example, Peter Janson a scientist from Canada has replicated a medical device from the show that has saved lives. He states that the shows made him want to be a scientist and drove him to help the world. The show is not a fantisy to some people but hope for a better world, full of adventures. The show has made it possible to dream outside the box and create things never heard of before. Many people transform themselves into characters from the shows and dedicate their lives to live as the characters did. Star Trek gave the world new technologies and shaped its viewers into dreamers and adventurers thriving to be something different.
