Many individuals, both scientists and the general population alike, have wondered for years if warp drive is possible. An individual at NASA has, after years of research, proved that achieving a speed that is greater than the speed of light is possible.

This process is very complicated and understanding the mathematics and science behind it is beyond the normal person’s grasp. The speed of light is not achievable within the Earth’s atmosphere, but space is a whole different ball game. Space itself can expand and contract at speeds that are unimaginable to most of us.The full explanation can be found at http://metsploration.wordpress.com/2013/03/17/warp-speed/

Instead of propelling the ship forward, the science behind warp speed suggests that the space behind the vessel would expand while the space in front of the vessel would contract, allowing for it to travel to destinations outside our solar system.

The amount of energy that is currently needed to achieve such speeds is equal to the mass-energy of over three hundred Earths. With a redesigned energy field, however, researchers have discovered that the amount of energy needed to achieve warp speed is equal to the mass of something that weights only 1,600 pounds.

While this warp drive theory has been proven using mathematical equations and scientific analysis, it remains to be seen if it can ever be put into real life practice. The fact that NASA is now seriously putting some weight behind this research says a lot about its future possibilities.

Those of you reading this who get your television through Cable-TV.com or have access to on demand might remember that Star Trek movie J. J. Abrams put out a few years ago. Despite being a fantastic film and further demonstration of Abrams’s masterful directing, it was mired in ridiculous fan debate.

Fans of the original Star Trek conceived by Gene Roddenberry heaped scorn at the film for not only making it relevant but forsaking any of what made Star Trek feel like Star Trek. Gone were the low-budget set designs and horrible acting and, instead, you had what was a remarkable and enjoyable experience.

Basically, Abrams’s Star Trek didn’t have that campy feel that Star Trek fans came to love, which might suggest that the Star Trek fans wanted crap.

Seriously, watch an original episode of Star Trek and attempt to defend it on any level. Sure, an episode might get points for imagination, but let’s talk about the storytelling. Let’s talk about how Star Trek was basically a way for introverts to live vicariously through a ridiculous man (Captain Kirk) who lacked even a minutia of complexity.

When fans say that the Abrams film was a totally different animal from Roddenberry, they’re right. It’s better.

“Landing party, set your phasers on stun!” As a kid growing up in the 1960s, I marveled at the gadgets and the fictional technology used on the original Star Trek series. I would have loved to have been able to get my hands on a phaser when I was a kid.

Now, at age ffifty, I have been able to order a phaser-like defensive weapon from the internet for the last twenty years. What’s more, this product, which is commonly used by most police departments, employs the same electro-muscular disruption technology as did the Star Trek weapon, provided it was set on stun, of course.

How skeptical the viewers were when the crew of Star Trek’s Enterprise flipped open their communicators and contacted each other and the ship. After all, the little hand held devices had no cords or antenna, so it was pure fantasy, right?

Today, we feel lost if we leave home without our personal, palm sized communicators. Nearly everyone in this nation owns, uses and depends on a cell phone daily, so much so that home phone lines and pay phones are becoming as tough to find as dinosaurs. In addition, if you thought the modern cell phone and Star Trek’s communicator weren’t eerily similar enough, just download Star Treks communicator activation sound for your cell phone’s ringtone.

Fans of the Starship Enterprise and its crew are looking forward to May 17th, 2013, the release date of the next feature film based on the creation of Gene Roddenberry. Many rumors and stories have been spread while official announcements are few and far between. This keeps many fans guessing as they anticipate watching the movie on the big screen.

An official title has yet to be released for the new movie. News sources and other people are simply calling it Star Trek 2. IMDB.com simply has it listed as Untitled Star Trek Sequel. Want more? Click here. Some have used current trends in sequels to guess that the words “Stark Trek” may not even appear in the title.

Many thought the villian for Star Trek 2 would be the classic series character Khan after a picture of actors Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain and Zachary Quinto as Spock was leaked from the set. This rumor has been repeatedly refuted by the studio. It has been announced by Keith Urban that the character is Gary Mitchell, a human granted extreme powers at the galactic barrier. Writer/co-producer Bob Orci has denied this. It may still be true given Orci’s history of denying truths to mislead fans before a release.

Everyone loves their cell phones and smart phones. The opportunity to text someone a simple hello or call a person miles away gives people great joy. Well Star Trek made it possible for the world to have cell phones today. The inventor of cell phones, Martin Cooper, got his idea from Captian Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series. Not only has the television shows allowed us to have new technologies in the social field, but it has also driven scientists to create objects from the shows. For example, Peter Janson a scientist from Canada has replicated a medical device from the show that has saved lives. He states that the shows made him want to be a scientist and drove him to help the world. The show is not a fantisy to some people but hope for a better world, full of adventures. The show has made it possible to dream outside the box and create things never heard of before. Many people transform themselves into characters from the shows and dedicate their lives to live as the characters did. Star Trek gave the world new technologies and shaped its viewers into dreamers and adventurers thriving to be something different.

Two characters engender the most adoration and continuing fascination from Star Trek fans, Spock from the Original Series, and the Next Generation’s Data.

Both characters are fish out of water. As a human/Vulcan hybrid, Spock struggled to reconcile his desire to embrace and apply the Vulcan philosophy of logic above all with the need for friendship and connection his human half demanded. For Data, human emotion and understanding were the goal. Superior in every other way to his shipmates, Data often found himself unable to partake in the simple pleasures they enjoyed, or even to share their sorrow or pain. He and Spock often found themselves accused of insensitivity they didn’t understand, and certainly didn’t feel, by those around them.

Though Spock and Data’s superiority made them outsiders, their perceptions of that superiority were not the same. Data wanted to be more human. He said in the Next Generation’s pilot episode he would sacrifice all his android abilities to reach that goal. Spock, on the other hand, accepted his superiority, even reveled in it. His problem was not his nature, but the conflict within it. Only gradually did Spock allow himself to incorporate the best aspects of his human half into his overall being.

Over its 46-year history, one person has been a touchstone and a guide for Star Trek fans. The person in that center seat on the bridge, the captain.

In the Original Series, Captain James T. Kirk commanded the starship Enterprise on a five-year mission to explore deep space and discover strange, new worlds. Kirk was a swaggering cowboy, a ladies’ man, but also an everyman. We saw the galaxy through his eyes, which, behind the bravado, were still filled with the wonder of the Iowa farm boy Kirk used to be.

Several generations later, Jean-Luc Picard captained the Enterprise-D in an era marked more by manners and reason. More diplomat than cowboy, Picard sought peaceful accords first, and always, as his crew explored themselves as much as they did the stars.

Originally placed in charge of a strategically placed space station, Benjamin Sisko was forced into a war against a far-reaching threat and had to use his calm demeanor, and accept his solemn destiny, to prevail against it.

Captain Kathryn Janeway’s U.S.S. Voyager, flung to the far side of known space, only returned home with her unwavering will and boundless ingenuity guiding, and sometimes pushing, it every step of the way.

And, before all of that, there was Jonathan Archer. As captain of the original starship Enterprise, he used a steady hand and an easy manner to help the Federation take its first steps into a larger universe.
